It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved mother Mary Bradish, a long-time resident of Fort Saskatchewan, on Saturday, May 1st, at the age of 87 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Edward (Lori), Douglas (Janet), Shelley Cooney (Stuart) and four grandchildren Hannah, Graham, Katherine and Michael.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 20 years, Lyndon Alexander; her parents: (John and Tellie Ferens) and her older sisters Bernice and Frances.
Mary was born in September 1933 to immigrant parents John and Tellie Ferens. She had fond memories of growing up on the family farm located at North Bank, Warspite, Alberta. She moved to the city after graduating from high school to work for the Royal Bank. She met Lyndon attending dances in Redwater and they married on August 4th 1956. They moved to Fort Saskatchewan in 1964. Mom and dad built a lovely house in Fort Saskatchewan, and a cottage at Jackfish Lake. We have wonderful memories from growing up in the Fort, and all the time we spent with family and friends at our cottage. Our parents made strong friendships in the community and were strong supporters of it. Mom volunteered for the figure skating club and both our parents were heavily involved with getting the local ski club going. Mom and dad gave us so many opportunities as kids growing up – figure skating, skiing, school band, summers at the cottage, and camping. Lyndon passed away September 1976 at the age of 46, and Mary went back to work at the bank, first at the CIBC and then at the Royal Bank for a number of years before retiring. Mom’s health suffered later in life. She had to give up her home which she loved, and especially missed her gardening and flowers. She moved to Country Cottage retirement residence in Sherwood Park in 2007 where the management and staff took wonderful care of her.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital Palliative Care unit for their care and compassion.
A Memorial Service for the immediate family will be held at a later date.
