Mel graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1961 and went on to enjoy a rewarding career at Dow Chemical. He was an avid sports fan who found great joy watching and participating in athletics. He loved to golf and curl, always appreciating the camaraderie and friendly competition. He also had a passion for windsurfing, fishing, skiing, enjoying both snow skiing in the winter and water skiing in the summer.
One of Mel’s greatest sources of pride and happiness was the cottage he built for his family at Muriel Lake. It became a cherished gathering place filled with laughter, stories, and lasting memories. Mel loved spending time there, especially when surrounded by those he loved most.
Mel will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sharon, daughter Kirsten, son Kyle, daughter-in-law Kim, grandsons Berg, Breckin, Landen and Callen, stepdaughter Jennifer, step-granddaughter Madison and his brother Rodney. And of course, Bear, his grand puppy, who brought him so much joy.
Mel was predeceased by his first wife, Donna in 1987, his parents Martin and Thelma, sisters Joyce, Maxine and Betty.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Juvenile Diabetes Canada.
