Aleece graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1955. She married Sam Craig on June 19, 1955, and was a homemaker and Mom to their three sons. Aleece was always headstrong and determined, and following Sam’s tragic death in 1989, she took the helm of Craig Box Corporation, the company he had started in 1983. With her courage and leadership, the company became a successful woman owned family business that has experienced much growth over the last 40 years.
Aleece loved gardening and had a passion for flowers, which earned her two Orchid Awards. She enjoyed crocheting, following sports, especially the Razorbacks, fishing and annual trips to the horse races in Hot Springs. Even in her late seventies, she enjoyed going to casinos and concerts (Todd Snider and Bruce Springsteen), with friends and family. She always looked forward to special lunches with her close friends.
Aleece was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam Craig; and her brother, Jackie Lewis.
She is survived by her sons, Eddy Craig (Kim) of Fort Smith, Alan Craig, and John Craig (Gabriela) of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Matthew Craig, Abby Craig, and Evie Craig all of Fort Smith, and Carol Ayanegui of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Brewster, of Wylie, TX and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 5 – 7 PM at Edwards Funeral Home.
