Ann Williams Jones, age 87 years, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022. She was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, on November 15, 1934. Ann attended Briarcliff Junior College in New York and the University of Arkansas, majoring in Art History. After college, she married Charlie Jones, NBC Sportscaster, also a Ft. Smith native. Ann and Charlie spent their newlywed years in La Jolla, California before moving back to Ft. Smith (1955-1960) and then to Dallas, Texas (1960-1967).
Ann and Charlie finally settled in La Jolla, California in 1967 where she was an active member of the Junior League of San Diego and Las Patronas of La Jolla, serving as President in 1977. Ann also enjoyed her time as a docent at the San Diego Museum of Art for 15 years and joined the Timken Art Museum where she was a Board Member. Ann’s passion for art took her around the world exploring sights from Europe to the Middle East, as well as climbing Machu Pichu and the Egyptian pyramids. Her sense of style and attention to detail was always noticed in the fundraisers she chaired, as well as the parties she hosted for family and friends at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
Ann was preceded in death by her father and mother, George and Elizabeth Williams, and her husband, Charlie Jones. She was a loving sister to Mary Lee Merrett and loving mother to son, Chuck Jones (Debra Aaron); daughter, Julie Jones Smitherman; granddaughter’s, Morgan Jones Burkhart (Kyle), Charlotte Jones; grandson, Parker Smitherman (Erin); and great grandson, James Smitherman.
A burial service will be at Forest Park Cemetery on June 28, 2022, at 10:00 am.
