

Arthur William Hughes, 83 of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away Monday, August 24, 2015. He was born October 17, 1931 in New Sharon, Iowa. Art was a retired truck driver, loved being with his friends and family, fishing and camping. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
He is survived by two sons, Dan Hughes of Chouteau, Oklahoma and Arthur Miracle of Santa Rosa, California; one sister, Mary Fisher Stout of Oskaloosa, Iowa; two sister in-law's, Teresa Hughes of Palm Desert, California and Sharon Fisher of New Sharon, Iowa; one brother in-law, Mike Stout of Oskaloosa, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by lifetime friend Jodie Haralson of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Art was preceded in death by wife Anita Sheppard Hughes; daughter, Susan Hughes Burris; mother, Alliemae Charriker Fisher; step-father, Alva Fisher; father, Gifford Hughes; brothers, Edgar “Jack” Hughes and Alva “Junior” Fisher; sisters, Martha Hughes Shook and Anna/Dorlene Hughes Holcomb.
Graveside memorial service will be at 2:00pm Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.
