Bruce was drafted during the Korean War. He served in the United States Army and later the 95th Division of the Army Reserves where he attained the rank of Major. His military service was very important to him.
Bruce retired from Superior Federal Bank after holding the positions of President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board. He guided Superior Federal from a one office Savings and Loan to a savings bank with more than 60 locations in Arkansas and Oklahoma. He was a visionary in the industry who helped develop the free-checking product that consumers across the country enjoyed. Mr. McNeill was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean. They met on a blind date when he was posted at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He is also survived by his daughter Lugene and son-in-law Dr Sinclair Armstrong Jr of Vian, Oklahoma; two grand daughters Aston Armstrong of Norman, Oklahoma and Sloan Armstrong of New York, New York. Also, his sister Janice Ragan and brother in-law Jim Ragan of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and an uncle and aunt, Troy and Ruth McNeill.
A private family graveside service will be at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith with U.S. Army Honors. The family will visit with friends at a reception following the burial. The reception will be from 1:00 to 3:00pm Friday, June 22, 2018 in the Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church, 116 North 12th Street, Fort Smith, Arkansas. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
