

Calvin W. Moye, a long-time resident of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Monday, July 24, 2023 from cancer. Born July 19, 1945 in Spanishburg, West Virginia (WV), Calvin attended Spanishburg Public Schools, Concord College in Princeton, WV and Westark Community College, Fort Smith, AR. Calvin served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Elmendorf, Alaska. While there, Calvin took his first steps toward future careers in appraising and teaching. His banking career started in Warrensburg, Missouri (MO) and continued to Springfield, MO working for Central Mortgage Bancshares. Calvin moved to Fort Smith and opened a Central Mortgage branch location before being hired by City National Bank (Bancorp South, Cadence), to begin and run their mortgage division.
During this time, Calvin also developed and taught educational classes for the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers; taught real estate classes at Westark Community College and for GRI (Graduate, REALTOR® Institute). After leaving City National, Calvin created Calmo Realty Services, that provided real estate brokerage, commercial and residential appraisals, and other finance-related services. As an appraiser, Calvin specialized in more complex, special -use property appraisals, and was called upon as an expert-witness on real estate appraisals.
In 2001 Calvin developed a 40-hr pre-course and a 35-hr classroom course, Real Estate Appraisal Review School (REARS) and began teaching bank examiners for the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council that continued through 2019. In 2010 he co-developed and then co-taught Distressed Commercial Real Estate through 2019. In addition to these classes taught in Arlington, VA, Calvin also provided the REARS class online for the Conference of State Bank Supervisors. He authored the textbook, Principles of Residential Real Estate Appraising which was used for classroom instruction in many states. A version of the Principles textbook continues to be used by the Canadian National Association of Real Estate Appraisers.
Calvin is survived by his companion and wife of 42 years, Deborah Findley; his daughter, NaLisa and her husband Marty Brown and grandsons, Nic, Alec and Zeac Brown, all of Clarksville, AR. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis and her husband Buddy Farley of Beckley, WV; and sisters-in-law, Penelope and her husband Roy Holloway of Crossett, AR and Yvonne and her husband Wade Haynes of Pine Bluff, AR. He is predeceased by his parents, Calvin C. Moye and Reba (Moye) Blevins of Daniels, WV, and in-laws, James H. and Virginia (Meier) Findley of Pine Bluff, AR.
Calvin spent most of his free time developing education materials, writing books and teaching. He enjoyed ‘tinkering’ on Jaguars and browsing garage sales, flea markets and antique shops.
Calvin’s Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the North Rotunda of the Fort Smith Convention Center, 800 Rogers Avenue. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family thanks Mercy Hospice for their support this past month. .
