Catherine “Cathy” Smith was born on August 26, 1936, in Sallisaw, OK to Melvin and Mable (Callahan) Viles. On July 5, 1955, she married Arnold Melvin Smith. They raised one son, Russ, and two daughters, Lynn and Michelle. They had another daughter who was born sleeping, Jamii.
Cathy graduated from bible college at Harvest Time Tabernacle. She was an administrative assistant at Cherokee Casino & Hotel Roland for 20 years. She was also an administrative assistant at Arrow Bolt & Screw in Fort Smith, AR, and worked for the Fort Smith School District.
Throughout her life, Cathy had many passions. She enjoyed spending time with her family, singing, dancing, fishing, archery, bowling, golf, painting ceramics, watching her favorite college football team on TV, and Hallmark Channel movies. We hope you remember her for her fiery spirit and her infectious laugh.
Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, her father, Melvin, her mother, Mable, her two daughters, Jamii and Lynn, her sister, Carla, and a brother who was born sleeping. She is survived by her son Russ Smith and wife Trish of Murfreesboro, TN, daughter Michelle Smith and husband Troy Elmore of Roland, OK, seven grandchildren, Michael Parker and wife Katy of Toronto, Canada, Daleana Vaughan and husband Ash of Fort Smith, AR, Kimberly Parker of Broken Arrow, OK, Jennifer Richardson and Timothy Ragsdale of Fort Smith, AR, Kandra Benton and husband Steven of Murfreesboro, TN, Jeff Richardson and wife Reva of Muldrow, OK, and Austin Smith and wife Julie, her 14 great-grandchildren Grant Vaughan, Hunter Harrison, Blake Vaughan, Catherine Harrison, Nevaeh Vaughan, Kate Benton, Layla Benton, Vincent Richardson, Parker Easton, Nora Benton, Isabella Richardson, Max Parker, Mia Parker, and Levi Smith, her close niece Kelly Phillips, close great-niece Brittany Jones, her aunt Carol (Callahan) Ivy, aunt Charlene Callahan, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A viewing and visitation with the family will be on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith, AR from 5 PM to 7 PM. A memorial graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith, AR on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 10 AM. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
