

Charles “Charlie” Dart, 72, of Van Buren, AR, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014, in Fort Smith. He was born November 30, 1941 to the late James and Ione Dart. He was an over the road Truck Driver, the owner of Taft Trucking Services, truck driver instructor at UAFS and had formally worked at NASA as a communications specialist. He served in the United States Marine Corps, was a US Coast Guard Reserve Petty Officer, attended First Baptist Church in Fort Smith and St. Luke Lutheran Church, member of the River Valley Det. 1248 Marine Corps League. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Dart and Danny Dart. He is survived by his wife Nyla Dart of the home; three sons, C. David Dart of Austin, TX, Ronald Dart and his wife Diane of Alvin, TX, Bronson Dart of Seabrook, TX; two daughters, Robyn Sonnenberg and her husband Darren of St. Cloud, MN, Holly Woodland and her husband Scott of Fort Smith; three sisters, Linda Goodgion of Oklahoma City, OK, Nancy Cruse of Oklahoma City, OK, Cathy Ludlow of Ada, OK; two brothers, James H. Dart of Van Buren, AR, Steve Carico of Oklahoma City, OK; eleven grandchildren, Victoria Dart, Caitlin Dart, Dylan Dart, Breanna Dart, Jasmine Dart, Michele Wallace-Jones and her husband Reuben, Brenden Sonnenberg, Jahna Sonnenberg, Amy Sonnenberg, Chris Woodland, Ian Woodland; two great grandchildren, Addison Wallace-Jones, Dylan Wallace-Jones; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral service will be 11:30 AM Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at St. Luke Lutheran Church with burial at 1:00 PM at Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Scott Woodland, Chris Woodland, Darren Sonnenberg, Roy Duncan, Rodney Center, and Dylan Dart. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
