Charles H. Ray, Sr., 90, of Fort Smith, died January 23, 2012 in Fort Smith. He was born September 15, 1921 to Bonnie O. and Nola Evans Ray. He was the retired owner/operator of Charles Ray Masonry, a member of Haven Heights Baptist Church where he was a attended the Charles LaMar Sunday School Class and was a member of the Haven Heights Dart Club. He was a Charter Member of the Bass Masters, the Fort Smith Bass Club, and Fort Smith Wilderness Club, he was a State Champion of the Arkansas and Louisiana Weight Lifters and played Semi Pro Baseball, he was a 33rd Degree Mason, member of Bellepoint Lodge, and a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp.
He is survived by his wife Ruby Ray of the Home; one daughter, Diana Baker of Barling; one step-daughter Betty Funkhouser of Fort Smith; one son, Charles H. Ray, Jr. and wife Jeanne of Van Buren; one step-son Terry and wife Tammy Madden of Boles, AR; three sisters, Ora Lee Spaulding of Fort Smith, Delores Wright of Diamond Bar, CA., and Judy and husband Harold Hunter of Fort Smith; two brothers, Leonard and wife Marie Ray of Fort Smith and Ronald and wife Aletha Ray of Van Buren; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; brother-in-law Bill Pendleton and sister-in-law Nancy Ray. He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Kerr Ray; sister, Frances Pendleton; and brother, Leo Ray.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 11:30 AM in Haven Heights Baptist Church with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Crawford, Bill Copher, Jr., Joe Ragsdale, Larry Tole, Grady Stone, Audie Talkington, and Paul Dime.
Honorary Pallbearers will be member of the Fort Smith Bass Club.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday evening from 5-7 PM
