Charles Clifford Suratt, Sr., 89, of Van Buren, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022. He was born on May 17, 1933 in Trenton, TN to the late Carlie and Myrtle Suratt. He was a U.S. Army veteran and following his military service, Charles attended New Mexico State University at Las Cruces, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration. After college, he worked for State Farm as a claims specialist until he retired in 1998. Charles was a faithful member and deacon of Spradling Baptist Church, where he and his wife attended. Charles was a member of both the River Valley Master Gardeners and Rotary Club of Fort Smith. He was best known for his love of life, his laughter, and his dedication to the Lord and his family. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his siblings, Gayle, Bob, and Bruce Suratt, Betty Butler and son-in-law, Derl Howerton.
He is survived by his wife Faye, three daughters, Kathy Howerton of Springdale, Sonia McMath (Brian) of Espanola, NM; Julia Hilts (Brian) of Fort Smith; three sons, Charles Suratt, Jr. of Springfield, MO, Eric Suratt (Anja) of Scottsville, KY, David Suratt (Jennifer) of Springfield, MO; sister, Laura Qualls (Joe) of Henry, TN; two brothers, Gene Suratt of Memphis, TN and Stacey Suratt of Paris, TN; along with seventeen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Spradling Baptist Church with burial to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Charles Suratt Jr., Eric Suratt, David Suratt, Luke McMath, John Howerton and Aaron Howerton. Honorary pallbearers are his brother Gene and all other grandsons.
Family will greet friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Edwards Funeral Home.
