Connie Lee Skinner

February 24, 1925April 7, 2011

Connie L Skinner, 86, of Fort Smith, passed peacefully from this life on April 7, 2011 in Peachtree Hospice in Fort Smith. She and the family were blessed to have such a loving, caring and peaceful environment in which to make this transition. She was born February 24, 1925 in Waveland, AR to Monroe T and Gladys Greenlee Wiseman. Connie was President of her graduation class at Havanna High School before moving to Fort Smith. There she met, married, and raised a wonderful family with the man of her dreams, Ezra “E.T” Skinner. They were best known in the Fort Smith Region as the owner/operators of Skinner Studio and Bridal Fashions between the years of 1952 and 1987. There are few homes in the area that didn’t have their portraits taken by E.T. for weddings, school pictures, church directories, or other special moments and/or purchase that perfect dress for their wedding day from Connie. They took great joy and pride in being a part of these special moments in the lives of the citizens of this area. Many have come forward with memories and stories of how Connie touched their lives and what they remember most about her. It was her contagious smile and sweet, gentle spirit that seemed to be at the top of the list each time. From her days at the Junior Miss through her years in bridal fashions, her flair for fashion became a part of her lifestyle. Possibly best put by a close friend, “the Style-Meter in Heaven rose the moment Connie arrived there!” Outside of the family business, she was an active member of Altrusa, and was instrumental in establishing the event known as A Taste of Fort Smith that flourishes even today. Connie, along with her husband, was also a Founding Member of the Southwest Bridal Association. She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church and the Aldergate Sunday School Class, which she loved with all her heart. She is survived by one daughter, Connie Buchholz of Dallas, TX; two sons, Dr. Bob Skinner of Fort Smith and Pat Skinner of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, Bonnie Shoemaker of Havanna, AR and Fern Bartshe of Nevada, MO., two brothers, Lynn and wife Lucille Wiseman of Little Rock and Glenn Wiseman of Salem, IN; and four grandchildren, Christian Buchholz, Lisa, Lesley, and Lindsey Skinner. She was preceded in death by her husband Ezra Skinner.

Funeral service will be Monday, April 11. 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Forest Park Cemetery, all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Dee Carroll, John Stauffer, Christian Buchholz, Kevin Newton, Bob Worley, and Dr. Edwin Coffman.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Aldersgate Sunday School Class.

The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-6 PM

Connie Lee Skinner

have a memory or condolence to add?

April 19, 2011

I knew her as "Mrs Skinner". (I was taught to address a true lady by her title, not her first name). I didn't really get to know her socially until Pat and I became friends. She was always so kind and friendly. The world was a better place because she was in it. I feel very sad for Pat and his siblings. I know these are difficult days and I am thinking of you.

Dear Pat & the entire Skinner Family,
I happened to be looking up an article about my nephew in the SW Times Record and saw your Mother's obituary, and being old school mates (I don't know if you'll remember me or not) I thought I'd let you know that I'm truly sorry about your Mom's passing. Pat, I'm still fortunate enough to have both of my parents and I get to Ft. Smith fairly frequently to visit with them. Having said that, I do hope you got to spend some quality time with your Mom -- especially recently. I sincerely hope you and your family have all the love & caring support you need at this time.

Dear Connie and Family,
I never met your Mom, but from reading about her life, I now know where little Connie got her spirit for life, sense of style and grace from. My deepest sympathies for the loss of a wonderful woman.

Dear Connie,Pat and Bob
Your mother was my friend, my mentor, and at times my business advisor. Her zeal for life and soft spoken wisdom helped me more than she knew. The world is a better place because your mother lived in it - Mrs. Skinner will always have a special place in my heart.

Dear Dr. Skinner,
I am so sorry to hear that your mother passed away. I know that this is a difficult time for you and it will be for awhile. I lost my mother November 2008 and I STILL miss her. Bob, Connie, Pat and family: Margo, James and I are so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a sweet lady and, Bob, as I said to you in a text message, always had a ready smile. She will be missed, but I know she and E.T. are together again. You guys are so lucky to have had two wonderful parents. God bless you during this time of grieving.

Dear Connie, Pat and Bob,
I just opened the ASDA Executive Council Package only to find the message from Billy Tarpley mentioning the passing of your mother. Although I did not know her, plese accept my sympathy. Connie and Pat, plese don't get mad at me, but I have known Bob since i981 at LSU Dental School. Bob, I know your family is at a loss. Plese let me tell you it will get some better in the future, but you will ALWAYS miss her. As you know, my mother passed away 2 1/2 years ago. I miss her as much today as then. If Connie and Pat are half the person you are, then your mother will be remembered for raising a gift of a caring and wonderful family. Her goodness, her caring, and her wisdom shall live on like a legacy of love that shall ALWAYS be with you. May that love surround you now and bring you peace and comfort during this difficult time as well as future days. May God be with each of you.
With deepest sympathy,
Dr. Wendell Garrett
