Dell was the co-owner and partner of Caperton-Hunt Office Supplies in Fort Smith. He was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the U.S Air Force serving from February 2, 1951, to October 17, 1954. Dell and his wife, Carolyn, loved to collect Coca-Cola Memorabilia and met many wonderful people through their meetings and conventions. Dell loved researching his and his wife’s family genealogy. He had the best sense of humor and the kindest heart. He was a loving husband, father, and brother. He was a loving father to his girls and the best dad to Carolyn’s children who lovingly considered him their dad.
Dell was preceded in death by his parents "A.B." & Minta Mae Nelson, His siblings; Thell Nelson (Kibler, AR), Velma Kimbriel (San Antonio, TX), Geneva Courtney (Dallas, TX), Maynard Nelson (Dallas, TX), Regeta Hassler (San Antonio, TX), Glenn Nelson (Fort Smith, AR), Imogene Etter (San Antonio, TX) and his stepson, David Green.
He is survived by his precious wife Carolyn, of the home; three daughters, Cathy Nelson, and Beth Nelson and husband, Pascal Lefevre, all of Fort Smith, and Jody Wein of Lavaca; a son, Jim Green and wife Susan of Ft. Collins, CO.; and daughter-in-law Majetta Green of Fort Smith. He is survived by nine grandchildren: Matthew Tumlison, Jared Tumlison (Brandi), Alex Nelson, Kris Wein (Amy), Katie Dunn (Joseph), Kari Wein, Kevin Wein (Ashlee), Michelle Smith (Kurt), and Jon Green (Lauren). He is survived by thirteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Service will be Thursday, July 25 at Grand Avenue Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with interment of ashes and Air Force Honors will be at Oak Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Matthew Tumlison, Jared Tumlison, Kris Wein, Kevin Wein, Jon Green, Joseph Dunn, Kurt Smith, Mike Smith, Charles Floyd, Steve Coleman, Harold Beaver, and Joe Murfin.
