Don Oglesby, devoted husband, father, friend and Disciple of Christ, left this life on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. He was a warm and gentle man who followed the commands to “Love God, Love People, & Make Disciples”. After 40 years as a food safety inspector, his retirement goals were to fish as often as possible and avoid setting his alarm. He truly enjoyed fishing & being outdoors. As Don would say, “Like a busted drum, you can’t beat it!” The only things he loved more were the people in his life.
Don is survived by his wife of sixty years, Martha (Williams) Oglesby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Gladys Oglesby, and his grandson, Daniel Payton Oglesby,
Don and Martha had two sons, Bill Oglesby, married to Ann, and Keith Oglesby, married to Carrie. Much of their joy came from grandchildren Amy Cone (Garrett), Matthew Oglesby (Nicole), Emily Hamilton (Blaine), Chris Oglesby (Grace Ann), Josh Oglesby, and David Oglesby.
He was especially delighted that his great-grandchildren, Beckett Cone, Leyton Cone, Brooks Cone, Hayes Cone, Noah Oglesby, and Summer Oglesby, love the water as much as he did.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at 3501 Rogers Avenue in Fort Smith AR. Services at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 14, 2024, will be followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
The family expresses its heartfelt gratitude to all friends who have given their love and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the First Christian Church (DoC).
Services are entrusted to Edwards Funeral Home.
