

Donald L. Sewell, 78, of Fort Smith passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 in Fort Smith due to injuries and medical conditions developed during his two tours of duty in Vietnam and subsequent service. He was born February 4, 1940 in Kansas City, KS to Green and Rebecca Sewell. He retired from the U.S. Army; he earned the combat medical badge, aircraft crewman’s badge, bronze star, Purple Heart and the Meritor’s service medal, among many other awards and decorations both foreign and domestic. He was a blue lodge and 32nd degree mason, a life member of the VFW, DAV, and “The Military Order of the Purple Heart”. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Donald and Richard Sewell.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Sewell of the home; three daughters, Patty McQueen and her husband Jim, of Arlington, TX, Anita Sewell of Louisiana, Diana Douberly and her husband Marvin, of Hot Springs, AR; a sister, Patricia Spicer of Kansas City, KS; as well as fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial to follow at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, with Military Honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Family will visit with friends Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
