

Dorothy Louise Martin Goodman passed from this earthly life at home surrounded by family on September 26, 2014. Dorothy was born in Danbury, Texas on August 7, 1923 to Guy Bryant Martin and Olive ("Ollie") Tamsey McLeroy Martin. "Ollie" passed away during childbirth in 1927. Dorothy had two brothers, Ray, deceased, and Joe Bill of Mendota, California. After her mother's death, Dorothy and her brothers were raised by other family members. Dorothy's "adoptive parents and brothers "Dr. F C Crow, Virginia Crow, Neil E Crow, M D and Martin L Crow, M D allowed her to grow up in Hope, Arkansas. She matriculated at Magnolia A & M in Magnolia, Arkansas in 1939. There she met the man of her dreams. Dorothy and R C Goodman, SR, M D were married April 10, 1943. When R C returned from the European theatre of WW II, they moved to Fayetteville where she received her BA degree in 1947.
R C received his M D degree in 1951 and they moved to Fort Smith in July 1955. Dorothy and R C raised five sons: R Cole M D, Joe R, Charlie E, Wyndal Martin, and Robin Q. M D. She was predeceased by parents Guy and Ollie Martin and F C and Virginia Crow, Neil E Crow Sr MD, Ray Martin and Wyndal Goodman. May 16th this year Dorothy lost her devoted and loving husband of 71 years, R C. She is survived by sons R Cole and wife Staci of Fort Smith, Joe R and wife Leeann of Cornith, MS, Charlie E and wife Cassie of Russellville and Robin Q and wife Mona of Russellville, twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Smith and the Gleaners Sunday School class for 59 years, the Dorcas Society, Hardscrabble Women's Golf Association, Sparks Hospital Guild and helped found the Sparkles Newsletter and a member of the Sparks Medical Auxillary. She served several terms as President of the Ballman, Ramsey, and Northside PTA as well as president of the Northside Grizzly booster club. She was a disciplinarian; which has served her boys well throughout their lives .She was a Loving Mother, devoted wife, loyal friend and all around blessing to all who knew her. Memorial Service will be in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, at 11:00 am Tuesday, September 30, 2014, with private interment of cremains preceding the service under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. There will be no viewing or visitation at Dorothy's request. The family will visit with friends after the Memorial Service in the Narthex with a light lunch.
