

Dorothy Elizabeth Long Reedy, age 90 passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospice on Thursday October 23, 2014. A resident of Fort Smith, AR since 1963, she was born in Danville, PA and graduated Valedictorian from Danville High School. Married 50 years to her High School sweetheart, she was preceded in death by husband Lt. Colonel (retired) Charles F. Reedy. Also preceded in death by her parents Guy Long, Dorothy Young Long Lowery, by 3 brothers Jim Long, Don Long and Ken Long and by 2 sisters Anna Appleman and Lucille Fox. She is also preceded in death by her eldest daughter Sylvia A. Reed of Fort Smith. She is survived by son Charles J. Reedy & wife Ann, daughter Jayne M. Huber & husband Michael, son Randy F. Reedy & wife Sherry, by daughter Beth E. Reedy-Hussain, and by son Richard S. Reedy & wife Karla. She is survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She is also survived by her brother Richard Lowery & wife Betty. A member greater than 50 years, Mrs. Reedy belonged to St. Luke Lutheran Church and has served in the Choir and Ladies Alter Guild. She was active in the Retired Officers Wives Club, YWCA both as a shelter volunteer and a staff member. A former Masonic Eastern Star, she also enjoyed big band dancing and belonged to many community dance groups. An avid bowler who participated in several leagues in her past, up until a few weeks ago, she bowled with a Senior League at Midland Bowl Lanes. A private viewing will be held at Edwards Funeral Home for the family and close friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday October 26, 2014. Services will be held Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church with Pastor Don Brewer officiating. Burial will be at Fort Smith National Cemetery October27, 2014 at 12:00 PM. Her family requests no flowers; instead Memorials can be given to the Christian Education fund at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 5401 Free Ferry Rd, Fort Smith, AR 72903 or by calling 479-452-2385.
