

Dorothy Adeline Stimmel, 94, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 in Fort Smith. Born the daughter of Frank Stinocher and Grace Stinocher (Beranek) on September 7, 1927 in Iowa City, Iowa, home of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She spent her younger years living on a small farm with her parents and one brother.
Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Calvin Earl Stimmel on May 27th 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas, after Calvin had enlisted in the Navy. Calvin was sent to San Diego, where a submarine was waiting for him to be shipped overseas, and Dorothy moved back to Iowa to live with Calvin’s sister during his deployment. After the war they lived in Iowa City until moving to Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1974 where
Dorothy worked at Calvert Mc Bride Printing for 30 years until her retirement. After the death of Calvin in 1997, she moved to Methodist Village where she remained until her declining health.
Dorothy loved to fish, camp, do crossword puzzles, play cards, and watch her favorite team on TV, the Arkansas Razorbacks. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, her brother Francis Stinocher and her son Eugene Calvin Strimmel. She is survived by her two sons, Larry Stimmel of Clarksville and Dale Stimmel of St. Petersburg, FL; her grandson, Mark Stimmel (Jackie) of Kalona, Iowa and several good friends she met at Methodist Village. The family would like to thank the staff at Methodist Health and Rehabilitation and Mercy Hospice for caring for Dorothy during her final days, and a very special thank you to Ellen Franklin, her best friend and card partner, for all your loving care.
Family will greet friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday, August 4, 2022 at the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
