

Dwain Lee Mayhew 85, of Fort Smith Arkansas, passed from this life on July 5, 2026. Funeral Services will be on July 9, 2026, at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Visitation is scheduled at 12 noon with the Funeral service at 1pm.
Rev. Steve Mayhew officiating. Honorary Pallbearers include Donny Mayhew, Walter Mayhew, Larry Shear, Ricky Mackey, Christopher Mayhew, and Nathanael Mayhew.
Dwain was born in Atkins, Arkansas on April 10, 1941, to parents James Mayhew and Pearl (Jones) Mayhew. Dwain married Paula Janette Burns on March 6, 1964. Dwain and Paula have lived in Fort Smith since the early 70’s.
He was preceded in death by parents James and Pearl Mayhew; brothers Marvin Mayhew, Bervil Mayhew, and Donald Mayhew; son Jeff Mayhew.
He is survived by his wife Paula Mayhew of Fort Smith, AR; son Steve Mayhew and wife Virginia of McAlester OK; grandsons Christopher Mayhew of Tulsa OK and Nathanael Mayhew of McAlester, OK; Several nieces and nephews.
Dwain was one of a kind. He had a mechanical mind, and he could fix just about anything. He has always worked on cars, mowers, and anything else that needed fixing. Dwain was huge in the Flight Masters Model Airplane Club of Fort Smith, AR. He absolutely loved building, working, and flying model airplanes.
Dwain was not only a model airplane flyer he also flew real airplanes. He worked very hard to earn his pilot’s license.
Dwain had a love for being online. He also loved the computer and taught himself everything needed to operate it. He spent many hours visiting with his brother Donald and playing music online together.
Dwain was a big classic country music soul. He loved to pick and grin. He taught himself how to play guitar and enjoyed getting together with friends to play and sing.
Other than his love of airplanes, computers, and music he had a special love for his two grandsons Chris and Nate. He spoiled them with anything they wanted, and he was a terrific grandfather.
The true center of his universe was Paula. For 62 years they went all over enjoying life and eating wonderful sonic burgers. They would take off and go to Branson or Hot Springs when they felt like just going for a drive.
