

Eileen M. Cobb, 89, of Jonesboro, AR., formerly of Fort Smith, died peacefully on August 8, 2012 in Jonesboro. She was born July 28, 1923 in Clarksville, AR to Earl C. and Myrtle King. Following High School graduation she was a clerk-typist for the War Price and Ration Board, the Veteran's Administration, and the Federal Housing Administration. When her children were born, she was a stay-at-home mom until the two oldest graduated high school, at which point she started night classes. Mrs. Cobb received her Bachelor's degree from the Arkansas Polytechnic College, and a Master's from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She taught elementary school for 4 years, and then adult education for 12.5 years. She retired from teaching in 1988 at age 65.
Mrs. Cobb was very active in retirement. She was a member of the Northeast Arkansas Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), the Village Book Club, and the Hand & Foot Club. She enjoyed reading, exercising, and any type of games which helped keep her mind sharp. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro and the Phebean Sunday School Class taught by Ava Duke, Daughters of the American Revolution, Jonesboro and Fort Smith Chapters, and the retired Teachers Association of Arkansas, Jonesboro and Fort Smith. Mrs. Cobb was a former member and long time Sunday School Teacher of the Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon and husband Ron Cole of Jonesboro and Cynthia and husband Norman Miller of Cleveland, GA; two sons, David Cobb of Fort Smith and Randy and wife Lori Cobb of Bryant, AR; one sister Barbara E. Kymer of Fort Smith; grandchildren, Alisha Bradley, Aaron Cobb, Jason & wife Michele Cobb, Tyler Cobb, Amanda Cole, Joshua and wife Corie Miller, and Diana & husband Vinny Aldrich; great grandchildren, Alex, Haley, Evelyn, Gwen, Jack, Desmond, Tyra, Naomi, and Heather. She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick A. “Freddy” Cobb and grandson Bradley Cole.
Funeral service will be Monday, August 13, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 PM
