Elsie Barker Smith

Elsie Barker Smith,93, of Fort Smith, died May 4, 2011 at a local hospital. She was born March 13, 1918 in Arkoma, Ok to Eugene and Julia Lura Loyd Barker, was a homemaker and a member of the Pilgrim’s Rest Primitive Baptist Church of Arkoma.

She is survived by 3 daughters and their husbands: Wanda and Floyd Bernett , Beverly and Jack Weatherton, both of Arkoma, Sharon and Bill Gupton , of Henderson, Nevada; 1 son and his wife, Jackie Glen and Dodie Smith of Arkoma. She is also survived by 1 sister; Bertha Humble of Fort Smith; 7 Grandchildren: Tim and Matt Bernett, Trex Smith, Mark Weatherton, Jackie Sanders, Dana Shanks and Richard Sehorn, 12 Great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Julia Lura Loyd Barker, her husband Glenden, their infant daughter Nancy Jane, 2 sisters Sallie McBride and Alice Kennedy.

There will be a visitation at Edwards Funeral Home from 5:30pm until 7:00 pm Friday, May 6. Funeral service will 10:00 am Saturday at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at New Hope Cemetery, Spiro, OK. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandson: Tim and Matt Bernett, Trex Smith, Mark Weatherton, Richard Sehorn and Ryan Crumb.
