Estelle S. Dobson, 98, of Fort Smith, passed away on November 21, 2017, at Mercy Hospital Inpatient Hospice in Fort Smith after a brief illness. She had worked varied jobs throughout her lifetime including being a waitress, a Walgreens cashier, and even operating an acetylene torch during World War II repairing navy ships in Bremerton, Washington, and San Francisco, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Clifford Dobson, the love of her life; and her first husband, K.D. Bollinger, who gave his life in service to this country in World War II. She is survived by a nephew who was like a son to her, Steven Simmons, of Fort Smith; a niece who was like a daughter to her, Linda Parmer, of Richmond, Texas; a sister, Shirley Simmons, of Barling; and numerous other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Estelle was born in Coal Hill, Arkansas, on September 25, 1919, the second of five daughters to William and Sarah Scroggins. Her passions included fishing, gardening, and sewing. Having survived the Great Depression, Estelle was frugal and did not indulge in extravagances. Her thriftiness allowed her and Cliff to live a comfortable, happy life at their modest home in south Fort Smith. It was a home they built with their bare hands.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery near Hackett under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Grant Shelton, Steven Simmons and Edwards Funeral Home Staff. Visitation will be from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Edwards Funeral Home
