

Eugene “Gene” Inman, 97, of Fort Smith died December 4, 2014 in Fort Smith. He was born in Mt. Grove, Missouri on February 27, 1917. He was the son of Ralph Inman and Sarah Ellen Tankersley Inman. Gene was a Veteran of WWII and was a retired member and technician of the 188th Fighter Wing. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church and held memberships in “the old guard”, the American Legion Post 31, the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the U.S., the National Bit, Spur and Saddle Association, the Trolley Museum, and the Fort Smith Historical Society. In addition, Gene was a Patron of the New Mexico Military Institute of Roswell, New Mexico where he received full military honors in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and his wife of 65 years, Helen Wise Inman.
He is survived by a son, Donald Inman and wife Julie, of San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Mary Beth Johnson and husband Roger, of Rogers, AR; one granddaughter, Stacy Stringer and husband Eric, of Shawnee, OK; three grandsons, Andrew Wise and wife Nicole, of Bentonville, AR; Aaron Inman of El Paso, TX, and Phillip Inman and wife Celeste, of San Antonio, TX; 8 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Monday, December 8, 2014, in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will be at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Bill Mason, Jerry Dixon, Steve Bridges, Harry Bridges, Col. Bill Files, Jerry Hassler, and Bill Weeks.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 7, 2014, from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home.
