Fred Goebel, Jr., 79, of Fort Smith, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, with his family by his side. He was born on September 9, 1942 in Fort Smith to the late Fred Sr. and Melina Goebel. He was a retired accountant. Fred was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degree. Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 31 and a lifetime member of the University of Arkansas Alumni Association. Fred loved deer camp, hunting and fishing, But most of all, he loved Saturdays with his family. In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his brother, Frank Goebel.
Rosary will be held 9:30 A.M. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 A.M. Interment with military honors will be at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife Ann, of the home; a daughter, Shelly Bailey of Fort Smith; two sons, Steven Goebel and his wife Rheaba of Natural Dam and Mark Goebel of Fort Smith; a brother, Charles Goebel of Greenwood and eight granddaughters; Tiffany Goebel (Jordan), Bethany, Lilly and Katie Bailey, Claire, Amelia and Nora Goebel and Shanda Phillips, along with three great grandchildren, Elric, Summer and Emmy.
Pallbearers will be Jim Newman, Larry Newman, John Borengasser, Rudy Gramlich, Rick Gramlich, Chris Moody, Reuben Avlos and Chuck Bowers.
Public viewing will be from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
