

G. Doug Burright, 80, of Barling, died May 26, 2010 in Fort Smith. He was born November 28, 1929 to Louie & Marie Beach Burright in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He attended South Sioux City High School and aspired to go to seminary, but in March of 1951 he was drafted in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea, Denmark, Vietnam, and Stateside. On July 15, 1951, Doug married Virgene “Jean” Doris Grimm in Manning, Iowa. Doug worked in the Food Inspection Division of the Army from 1951 – 1973. Following Doug’s Military Career he decided to attend Concordia Teachers College where he graduated with a degree in Director of Christian Education. Doug received a call to Zion Lutheran School in Thayer, NE where he was principal and teacher. He served this school until 1986. In September 1986 he was called to First Lutheran School in Fort Smith, AR. There he served as principal and teacher until his retirement in 1995. Doug faithfully loved and cared for his family and church.
He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Jean Burright of the Home; four daughters, Cindy Tuttle & husband Dave of San Antonio, TX., Leasa Freeze & husband Rick of Dumfries, VA., Anita Stevenson & husband Rich of Harrisburg, S.D., and Pam Sackschewsky & husband Kurt of Van Buren, AR; one sister in law, Gail Burright of Hot Springs Village, AR; fourteen grandchildren: Tawney Carter, Nick Tuttle, Paul Grohs, Chad Grohs, Todd Grohs, Jay Stevenson, Chris Stevenson, Tiffany Stevenson, Aaron Freese, Ryan Freese, Andrew Freese, Rachael Zubair, Megan Bayer, and Leisl Sackschewsky, and seventeen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Don Burright; one infant Son, and one infant great grandson.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the First Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery with Full Military Honors all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Monday afternoon from 2-4 PM
