She was born January 10, 1934 in “Sawyer Hollow” near Twin Creek in Izard County Arkansas to her parents Bennie V. Hutchins and Edith Davis Hutchins. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 siblings, Delma Moser and Leon Hutchins, a grandson, John-David Seay, and a great granddaughter, Alyvia Earlene Seay.
Geta grew up in Guion, AR and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1952. After graduation she worked in Kansas City for Warner Brothers. She then married and returned to Guion where her two children were born. In 1966, Geta relocated to Fort Smith, AR with her children and worked at Berry Dry Goods. After that, her professional career was primarily with the Farmer’s Home Administration with a break in service when she moved to Kansas City, MO to operate a group home for mentally disabled adults. She returned to her government job and eventually retired in 1996. In 1997 – 2001, she lived near her son and grandchildren in Big Cabin, OK. Geta eventually returned to Fort Smith where her later years were spent as a resident of Mercy Crest Assisted Living and Methodist Village Senior Living.
Geta’s greatest passion was providing care to those in need. She would take such joy in cooking, cleaning, folding clothes, ironing, listening, being compassionate, rocking babies to sleep, making up silly songs, taking grandkids to garage sales to find treasures, and gardening. Her conversations always led to her personal relationship with her savior, Jesus Christ. She believed so much in the goodness of every person. In her own words she said that she “valued loving relationships and enjoyed people better than places or things.”
Geta leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Lisa Paulette Seay (Forrest Brown) of Fort Smith, AR, and a son, David Wayne Seay (Kay Weyen) of Big Cabin, OK; a sister, Bonita Mez of Kansas City, MO, a brother, Gary Hutchins (Carol) of Guion, AR. Geta was “Grangie” to 7 Grandchildren, Christian Lenderman (Randy) of Conway, AR, Charity Grisham (Nick) of Conway, AR, Cassidy Hiester of Dallas, TX, Alycia Finkbeiner (Ben) of Cushing, OK, Davia Seay-Brock (Ryan) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Austin Seay (Tarah Neal) of Irving, TX. She was happiest spending time with each of her 19 great grandchildren and they adored every moment with her.
Geta’s Memorial Service will be November 19, 2023 at 1 PM at Combs Cemetery in Melbourne, AR. Family and friends are invited to share in this celebration of her life through visitation and refreshments following the Memorial Service. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
