

Harold B. Plunkett, 97, of Fort Smith, passed away peacefully Saturday in Cherokee Village, AR. He was born in Scranton, AR to the late Herbert B. and Fannie T. Plunkett. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, to whom he was married for 63 years. They had been members of several local dance clubs, where they enjoyed ball room dancing and fellowship with many friends. He was a former US Postal employee and retired with over 40 years of service. In WWII, he served in the US Navy in the Pacific Region. For nearly 60 years, he was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and active there as a Minister of the Eucharist. He was also a fourth degree knight in the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. His yard was usually spectacular in the Spring with many roses, irises, crocuses and lilies in bloom.
Rosary will be said at 7:00 PM Tuesday, December 20th at Fentress Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 9:00 AM Wednesday, December 21st at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary and her husband Matt Winston of Cherokee Village, Cathy and her husband Richard Ellis of Conway, and Marie and her husband Dr. Greg Curry of Shawnee, KS; five sons, Joe Plunkett and his wife Margie of Plano, TX, Gene Plunkett of Greensboro, NC, Michael Plunkett of Fairfax, VA, Dr. Dan Plunkett of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Patrick Plunkett of Alexandria, VA; a sister, Idell Rapp of Fort Smith; a brother Howell Plunkett of Mountain Home; 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
His grandsons will be pallbearers.
