Henry "Hank" C. McMurtery Sr.

Henry C. “Hank” McMurtery Sr., 86, passed away peacefully with his family nearby, September 21, 2023. He was born November 28, 1936, in Knoxville, TN to James McMurtery and Evelyn (Harvey) McMurtery.

Hank was an Air Force Veteran, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was very active in the Boys Scouts where he was a mentor to many. He moved his family to Barling Arkansas in 1972 to be near family, he opened and owned Hank's auto parts store, and he then worked for Evans Electric where he retired after 20 years of service. Hank loved music, he built and played guitar, loved singing. He hosted the Barling good old boy show for 18 years. He was also on the planning commission for Barling for many years which helped the town become a better place to live.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanice; and he was also preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son, Hank McMurtery Jr. and his wife Christina of Alma; his sister, Wanda Protyniac of Wayne, MI; grandson Christopher McMurtery and his wife Michelle; and great-grandson, Bentley McMurtery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 26, 2023, from 5 – 7 PM at Edwards Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be 12 Noon Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Fort Smith National Cemetery.
