

Irene Fox Burns, 94, of Fort Smith passed away peacefully at Methodist Nursing Home on March 24, 2012 in Fort Smith. She was born September 24, 1917 in Mulberry, AR to Fred and Melvina West Fox. Her death ended a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She remained sweet and kind with a sense of humor even at the end. She worked for several years in retail at J.C. Penney Company but was a homemaker for most of her life and will be remembered for her wonderful pies and homemade rolls. Irene was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1946 and was an inspirational role model for her family in leading an exemplary Christian life.
She is survived by three children, Ronny Burns and wife Sandy of Fort Smith, Janice Davis and husband Don of Fort Smith, Carolyn Maiden and husband Bill of Rogers, AR; grandchildren, Charity King of Houston, TX., Justin and Meridith Burns of Fort Smith, Debbie Davis of Fort Smith, Terry and wife Dena of Wichita, KS., Randy and wife Tracy of New Braunfels, TX., Scott and wife Cassandra Maiden of Rogers, AR., Tracy and husband Eddie of Springdale, AR; fifteen great grandchildren and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Harold Lee Burns; her parents; five sisters, two half brothers, one half sister, and one great granddaughter.
Funeral service will be Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5-7 PM
