He was born March 31, 1936, to Willie Herbert Buie and Delilah Buie, and grew up in Fort Smith. James married Jane Wexlin in February of 1962.
James spent his life as a dedicated Orthopedic Surgeon. He loved his family, fishing, reading, and enjoyed playing the piano. He would humor many with saying one day he would want his obituary to list the day he was born, the day he passed, and these words: “On Monday, be sure to call the office to reschedule your appointment with a different doctor.” He practiced for over 50 years in Fort Smith; he was a physician with River Valley Musculoskeletal Center until retiring.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Delilah, brother John Paul, and brother Tom and his wife Carolyn.
James leaves behind his wife Jane of almost 64 years, a son James Herbert II, daughters Jennifer (Frank), Janelle, and grandchildren Kali, Logan, C.J., Vivienne, and Charlize. He also leaves a sister Mary Robinson (Ray), sister-in-law Ellena Cissy Czechowicz (Larry), sister-in-law Kathryn Buie, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
