

James R. Turner, 90, of Fort Smith, died July 2, 2011 in Fort Smith. He was born August 5, 1920 in Centerville, PA to Charles and Louise Kelly Turner. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years service where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He also retired from the Fort Smith Public School System and Desoto Furniture Company. He was a member of the Temple Lodge #755, F & A.M., perpetual member of the VFW, Post 8845, Life member of the Eastern Star #237, Fraternal Order of Eagles area 208, 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite Bodies, Western Arkansas Retired Military Association, Amrita Grotto, and the American Legion Post 31.
He is survived by a son, James Rumzie of Townville, PA; stepson, Carroll Ibison of Blue Jay, CA; five sisters, Rita Hanlon of Texas, Lucille Turner of Canada, Pauline Turner of San Antonio, TX., Justine Naculich of Erie, PA., and Mary Turner of Erie, PA; three brothers, Francis Turner of Tunkhannock, PA., Leo Turner of Cincinnati, OH., and Robert Turner of Mansfield, OH; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Turner.
Funeral service will be Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery with Full Military Honors all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Thursday morning from 9-10 AM in the Edwards Chapel prior to the service.
