Jerome P. Meyers, 95, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024. He was born on Feb. 19, 2029 in Morrison Bluff, AR to the late John and Mary Meyers.
Jerome was also known as Romie, courtesy of his siblings who nicknamed him. He began his career as a paperboy for the Fort Smith Tribune and the Southwest Time Record. He also worked as Assistant Manager at the Food Center, for his brother, Bill. He graduated from St. Anne’s Academy in 1947. Romie then joined the Army and after his service, he met the love of his life, Jackie, at Fort Chaffee and they married on April 19, 1955. He then worked in sales for Roi Tan Cigars and transitioned to food sales for Gingham Girl Flour and Van Hook Food Brokers. For several years, he was co-owner of Burns-Carousel of Flowers and after his retirement, he started Valentine Express Delivery Service.
Romie never met a stranger. He loved talking and would strike up conversations with anyone. He loved to fish, play solitaire and buy scratch off tickets, hoping to win the big one. He always enjoyed food and couldn’t wait to try new recipes (cooked by someone else of course!) But family was his greatest joy. The special holidays and celebrations with his family were his most cherished memories.
Romie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Jacqueline, his parents, John & Mary Meyers, his sisters, Tinnie Klimpt and Margaret Schlag and his brothers, Bill, J.B., George, Greg and Joe Meyers.
Romie is survived by his children, Linda (Floyd) Maestri, Daniel (Karen) Meyers and Jeff Meyers and his brother, Pat Meyers.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lori Campbell, Jennifer Bomar, Zachary Maestri, Gregory Meyers, Erica Cunningham and Jay Nelson Meyers. As well as his great grandchildren, Deja Bomar, Ethan Bomar, Luke Cunningham and Georgiana Maestri.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Covington Court for their support and loving care for the last few months.
Visitation will be held at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, followed by a rosary at 6:30 p.m. The funeral will be on Friday, Aug 16, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. John Antony presiding. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
