

Jerry Wayne Biggs, 67, of Fort Smith, passed from this life January 31, 2017 in Fort Smith. He was born May 14, 1949, in Paris, Arkansas, to the late Elmer “Bud” Lee and Atha Mitchael Biggs. Jerry enlisted with the Arkansas Air National Guard 188th Fighter Wing in 1968 and retired with the rank of SMSgt in 2009. He was a charter member of, and very active with Haven Heights Baptist Church, serving as Deacon and was part of the bus ministry. He was devoted to planting the seeds of faith and serving his community. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman. He loved turkey and deer hunting and being in the peaceful stillness of God’s created wilderness. He was active with Gideons International, was a 1967 graduate of Southside High School and attended WestArk Community College after graduation. Jerry loved being with his family, especially being “Poppy” to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marianne DePriest Biggs; his children, Stacey Martin and her husband Jacob of Tulsa, Jeffrey Biggs and his wife Amy of Fort Smith and Christina Stringer and her husband Eli of Fort Smith; his foster mother, Jackie Mitchael of Fort Smith; his brothers and sisters, Al Biggs and his wife Mary of Fort Smith, Larry Biggs and his wife Mary of Fort Smith, Jane Parks of Bryant, Arkansas, Jeanetta Ray and her husband Bill of Lavaca, Phyllis Wells and her husband Robert of Fort Smith, Morris Mitchael and his wife Cyndi of Allen, Texas and Stephanie Trotter and her husband Vince of Lavaca; a sister-in-law, Lucy Biggs of Barling, as well as five grandchildren, Landon and Cole Martin, Jaclynn Biggs, and Alex and Kaston Stringer. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his foster father A.W. Mitchael, and two brothers Donald and Steven Biggs.
Funeral services will be 10:30am Friday, February 3, 2017 at Haven Heights, with Dr. Steve Young and Dr. Neal Prock officiating. Burial will follow, with Air Force honors, at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Biggs, Jacob Martin, Eli Stringer, Larry Biggs, Tony Tidwell and David Collins.
Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
