

He graduated from Northside High School (1964) and earned his juris doctorate from the University of Arkansas (1973). He served as a 12th Judicial Circuit Court judge from 1993 to 2016. A lifelong supporter of the Fort Smith community and its unique history, he played a leading role in numerous community initiatives, including efforts to recruit the U.S. Marshals Museum and promote and raise funds for the statue of Bass Reeves in downtown Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dixie; two children, John (Margaret) and Julie; and four grandchildren: Nathan, Michael, Laura, and Colin.
His Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
