Joseph D. Broadhurst Sr.

Joseph D. Broadhurst, Sr., 94, of Barling, AR, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Ashton Place in Barling, AR. He was born January 27, 1916 in New Albany, IN. He was a Conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad from 1937-1981. He was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith, AR, United Transportation Union – Local 383 in New Albany, IN and 32nd Degree Mason – Sebastian Lodge #706 in Fort Smith, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents Bess McWilliams (Born in Crawford County, IN) and Noah Henry Broadhurst (Born in Kidderminster, England) and 3 brothers Morris Broadhurst, Ronald Broadhurst and Noah Henry “Bud” Broadhurst, Jr.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Stark officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife Alice White Broadhurst of Fort Smith, AR, 4 children Shirlee Smith and husband Bob of Charleston, AR, Joseph D. Broadhurst, Jr. and wife Amy of Louisville, KY, Jeanine Springer of Montgomery Village, MD and Pamela Mallard and husband Mike of Lawrenceburg, IN, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Mallard, Robert Smith and Nick Smith.

The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
