Joseph "Joe" Arthur Griffin

Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debra “Debbie” Griffin. He is survived by his children, Melinda Griffin (Amanda) of Barling; Robert Griffin II (Amanda) of Rogers; and Andrew Griffin (Lisa) of Fort Smith. Joe was a proud Grandpa to Haley Moore, Ryan Moore, Dawson Griffin, and Hudson Griffin.

He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Deerinwater of Barling, Alta “Nissy” Griffin of Alma, and Cathey Barr of Fort Smith; his brother, Christopher Griffin (Rebecca) of Van Buren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Joe was born on December 1, 1954, in Denver, Colorado, to the late Robert and Clara Griffin. He spent the majority of his working life as an electrician, a career that took Joe, his beloved wife, and their family, to several different states. In 1995, Joe and Debbie settled in Lavaca, where they put down roots and made their home.

Joe and Debbie shared 48 years of marriage. Joe loved Debbie deeply, and after they both retired, they enjoyed traveling and making memories together, including many trips to Branson and Disney World, and attending concerts by some of their favorite artists, including the Eagles and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Joe was a devoted Catholic and he and Debbie were members of Immaculate Conception Church in Fort Smith. Joe spent his final years working as a janitor at Christ the King Church, where he became loved by the children there.

Joe enjoyed the simple things that made life special. He loved Christmas, especially putting up the Christmas tree, hanging lights on the house, and setting out his beloved Christmas village. He enjoyed working in his garden, watching wrestling, listening to music, and traveling with Debbie.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 16, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Fort Smith. Inurnment will follow immediately in the church columbarium.
