
LaVerne Robbins, 82, of Fort Smith was born May 3, 1928 and passed away peacefully at Peachtree Hospice on October 22, 2010, surrounded by her family. Her death ended a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was Valedictorian of her High School Class at Spiro, Oklahoma. She worked for several years in retail at Penny’s and Hunt’s Department Store before accepting an accounting position at Arkansas Oklahoma Gas Company, from which she retired after 24 years of service in 1992. She was a Charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was very active and participated in every church activity and was a member of the Win-One Sunday School Class, the Administrative Council, the Young at Heart Club, and a Charter Member of the Wesley United Methodist Women. She loved her church and was an inspirational role model for her family in leading an exemplary Christian Life. She loved her family and was happiest when they were all together for holiday and special occasions.
She is survived by four children, Gwynne Hinterthuer and husband Mark of North Little Rock, Stan Robbins and wife Nancy of Fort Smith, Randy Robbins and wife Janet of Fort Smith, and Melanie Rogers and husband Scott of Fort Smith; one sister, Margaret Jo Rees of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Mitchell and Norma Garretson Mitchell, her first husband, Elvis Robbins, to whom she was married almost 45 years prior to his death, her second husband, Bill Tuttle, to whom she was married 13 years prior to his death, one sister, Gayle Sykes, and four grandchildren, Matthew Robbins, Chase Robbins, Hart Robbins and Chad Robbins.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 11:30 AM in the Wesley United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons-Scott Hinterthuer, Josh, Mac, Jake, Casey, and Cole Robbins and Drew Rogers.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Win-One Sunday School Class of Wesley United Methodist Church.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5-7 PM.
The family extends Special Thanks to all at Covington Court Nursing and Rehab and Peachtree Hospice who assisted in Mrs. Robbins’s care for the past several years.
