In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Nix and Leonard Nix and one sister, Ida May Tanner.
Leo was a proud Native American Veteran of the Vietnam conflict. After his service, Leo was a masterful salesman in the car business, working for numerous dealerships locally, but the bulk of his career was at Breeden Dodge, where he work for Toby Breeden and developed a long friendship. During his automotive career, Leo assumed the moniker of “Chief”. His pride of his heritage and fondness for the nickname became his calling card for the rest of his life. More people came to know “Chief” than knew Leo.
Leo was a devoted follower of Christ and called Christ the King Church in Fort Smith as his church home. It was the deep passion for the Lord that led Leo to lead many others to a faithful walk.
Survivors include his wife and lifelong companion, Linda Nix (Dalton); one daughter, Jennifer Gipson and husband Rod of Greenwood, AR. Two sons, Leo Nix, Jr. of the United Kingdom and Sean Nix and wife Dondi Nix of Bentonville AR; nine grandchildren, Lauren Jones of Arlington VA, Amber Thornton of Greenwood, AR, Colby Mathis of Bella Vista AR, Jacob, Jeremiah, Holly, Cooper, Ainsley and Addison of Bentonville, AR, along with one great grandchild, Jake Thornton; four sisters, Sarah Feather and husband Ralph, Peggy Masters, Melba Cates, all of Jay, OK and Meda Nix of Tahlequah, OK.
Family will greet friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Edwards Funeral Home, 201 North 12th Street, Fort Smith, AR 72901. Funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will be at the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
