Mrs. Smiley was called home on Thursday, December 27th, while surrounded by her family. She was 53 years old. She was born in Tamuning, Guam but spent most of her years in Georgia, where she met her husband and best friend, Billy Smiley. They were married on Nov. 9, 1984 in Reidsville, GA. Together they raised three children, Megan, Billy and Jeffery, of whom she was proudest and considered her greatest achievement.
With an immense capacity for love and compassion, Liza enjoyed a career working with elementary special needs children. She loved animals and would have adopted every homeless pet if she could. Above all, her greatest joy came from loving her two grandsons, Kade and Gavin. Being around her family brought her such happiness, that if she wasn’t sharing her favorite memories, she could always be found behind a camera capturing the laughs and smiles of the day. Her contagious laugh, loving spirit, and bright smile will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, her children and grandsons, Liza is survived by her parents, Doug and Francisca Stevens; her siblings, Gina Middleton and Michael Stevens; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday Jan. 6, 2019 at 1:00pm at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on 12th Street in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, in memory of Liza.
