Lona Weisenfels, 89, of Fort Smith, AR, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. She was born on March 18, 1934 in Morrison’s Bluff, AR to the late Albert and Mary Knittig. Lona was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she was involved with the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a 1952 graduate of St. Scholastica Academy. She loved Cardinal baseball games, her flower gardens and most of all, Lona loved her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Lona is preceded in death by her husband, Augustine “Gus” Weisenfels, three sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM Tuesday, April 11, 2023, with the Rosary immediately to follow. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 AM, all at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will be at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol Zellner (Joe) of Bartlett, TN, Patty Pair (Deacon Greg) of Fort Smith and Martha Hicks, (Mike) also of Fort Smith; three sons, Jim Weisenfels (Judy) of Hackett, Ron Weisenfels (Judy) of Fort Smith and Al Weisenfels (Deena) of Hackett; a brother, Ed Knittig (Annette) of Fort Smith; a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Knittig of Lavaca and a brother-in-law Charles Weisenfels of Morrison’s Bluff, along with 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
