

Lula Beatrice Moreland, 92 of Fort Smith, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016. She was born on October 15, 1923 in Hope, Arkansas to the late Thomas and Minnie Chambliss. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wesley Moreland; a son, Jackie Moreland and eleven sisters and brothers.
Lula was a devout Christian and active in United Methodist Women and the Pacesetters Group of First Church. She worked in Christian mission outreach including the Salvation Army Auxiliary, the Interfaith Community Center, Habitat for Humanity and the Good Samaritan Clinic. She also supported the Boy Scouts of America.
She is survived by three sons, Bill Moreland, Rev. Tom Moreland and his wife Brenda, and John Moreland, all of Fort Smith, AR; four granddaughters, Leslie Purcell, Shannon Carroll, Kristin Rains, Marlowe Dean; two step grandsons, Tony Porter and Marty Porter; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Roebuck Chapel, First United Methodist Church, Fort Smith, with burial to follow at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Ft. Smith. The Rev. Bud Reeves and The Rev. Herschel McClurkin will officiate.
Pallbearers are Butch Edwards, Carl Rose, Ron Wright, Doug Hartman and Zack Dean. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Builders Sunday School Class and The Pacesetters.
Family will visit with friends Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Edwards Funeral Home, 201 N 12th St, Fort Smith, AR 72901.
