Sister Mary Ricarda McGuire

Sister Mary Ricarda McGuire of Mc Auley Convent, Barling, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Sister was born April 14 1913 in Ordway, Colorado and was baptized Mary Margaret McGuire. Her parents were Peter and Nellie McGuire.

Sister entered the Sisters of Mercy Community September 8, 1932 and made her first vows March 12, 1935. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree at Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, TX. in 1952, and her Master of Science in Library Science from the same college in 1955. She did post-graduate study in Audio-visual Methods.

Between 1935 and 1982 Sister Mary Ricarda taught in Arkansas schools, both elementary and secondary. She was a high school Librarian and Audio Visual Specialist and Coordinator. She worked in Patient Relations at St. Joseph Health Center from 1982 until 1998. She also published three books of poetry.

She retired to McAuley Convent and Retirement Residence in Barling, AR. in January, 1999.

Sister is survived by her niece, Mary Marr, of Colorado Springs, CO. and a cousin Mr. Charlie McGuire of Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Rosary will be at McAuley Convent Chapel on Friday, April 13th at 9:30 AM. The Funeral Mass will be in the McAuley Convent Chapel on Friday April 13th at 10:00 AM. Sister will be buried in Calvary Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Ft. Smith.
