

Nina Ruth (Brown) Waack of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away one day short of 101 years old on October 22nd, 2024. She was born on October 23rd,1923 to Matthew Brown Jr. and Ada Ruth (Shackelford) Brown in Isabella, Oklahoma.
Nina was part of the Greatest Generation and grew up on her family’s farm in Northwest Oklahoma. Her family nicknamed her Buffy for her sense of style, and nurtured her to be an avid lifelong learner.
She briefly attended college and when World War II hit she moved to Oklahoma City, where she worked for Douglas Aircraft as a quality auditor for new airplanes. She met her husband Richard there and they were married for more than fifty years. They raised three sons and built a successful insurance business together.
She had many interests and hobbies, but one of her greatest passions was experimenting with new plants and seedlings in her gardens.
When she was in her eighties she would travel to the Kenai Peninsula to don waders and fish for salmon in the river.
Nothing was more central in Nina’s life than family. She was a true matriarch. This extended to family both near and distantly related. She was a Member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for more than fifty years and her extensive research will live on as a legacy for future generations.
She is dearly loved and will be dearly missed.
Nina is preceded in death by her husband Richard Eugene Waack. Her granddaughter Karli Waack and her great granddaughter Stacy Bergman.
She leaves behind sons Richard L. Waack, Matthew and Brenda Waack, Timothy and Karen Waack. Granddaughters Kristi Bergman, Kimberli Waack, grandson Andrew Waack and Brooke Waack, granddaughter Barbara and Brian Cross, grandson Matthew and Stephanie Waack, granddaughter Jessica and Matt Morgan.
Great Grandchildren Joshua Waack, Jacob Waack, Braden Palmer, Logan, Leighton and Emory Cross, Adaline Waack, August Gadke, Drew and Megan Morgan, Grant and Sydnie Morgan, Paige and Logan Moss
Great Great Grandchildren Wilder, Jovi, Vic, Stetson and Lexi Ana
The visitation will be at 2:00 pm on October 25th at Edwards Funeral Home, Fort Smith, Arkansas. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at Roselawn Cemetery, Fort Smith, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Methodist Village Nursing Home, Fort Smith, Arkansas.
