Norma Sue "Susi" Bennett Green, 77 of Fort Smith, passed away October 18, 2020. Susi was born at home in Van Buren, AR in the Catcher community of Crawford County, Arkansas, delivered by her paternal grandfather, Dr. Burrell Bennett, on June 9, 1943. Her maternal grandparents were Rob & Annie Gooding, of the Oak Grove Community. Both communities are now known as Oak Grove.
Other than her grandparents, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Norma D. (Gooding) Bennett and Leo S. Bennett; her brothers; Tommy Coy Bennett, twin to Charles, Charles L. Bennett (Eve) and her brother, Bob B. Bennett (Mary Lou); her son, John P. hunter, and her husband of 48 1/2 years, Phillip M. Green, Jr.; one sister in law, Lynda (John) Bennett.
She is survived by her son and special caregiver, DuCote “Cody” Hunter; her daughter, Michelle Greenfield of Fort Smith; her grandchildren, Johnathan (Jennifer) Hunter of Rogers, Jason Forrest Hunter of Lincoln, Luke Greenfield, Faith Greenfield and John Phillip Greenfield all of Fort Smith; two great grandchildren, Danika Hunter and Stoney Hunter; her two surviving brothers, Bill F. Bennett (Sue) of Knoxville and John A. Bennett (Lynda) of Benton, AR; and many precious nieces and nephews.
Susi attended Fort Smith Senior High, graduating in 1961, WestArk Community College and the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. Susi was receptionist at Warner, Warner, Ragon & Smith for 5 years, and later employed for another 25 years as an administrative assistant, system operator and legal secretary for Warner, Smith & Harris Law Firm; a co-owner of GreenLadd’s Restaurant, and a homemaker.
Susi enjoyed making a home for her family, cooking, traveling, and exercise classes with her friends, such as aerobics, jazzercise, line dancing and GoStriders.
Memorial visitation will be 5 PM till 7 PM, Friday, October 30, 2020 at Edwards Funeral Home. Her ashes will be mixed with those of her husband’s and scattered in various locations. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
