Paul A. Whisenhunt

On the evening of June 25, 2017, Paul A. Whisenhunt, 76, passed away at Mercy Fort Smith. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched throughout his life. Paul was born June 22, 1941 in Fort Smith to his parents Charles and Lois Whisenhunt and was loved by all that knew him.

Paul was a 1959 graduate of Hartford High School where he was quite the athlete. He then attended Fort Smith Junior College on a basketball scholarship where he received his Associates Degree in Business. On April 1, 1961, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life for 56 years, Dorcas Ann Fancher.

He dedicated 37 years of his life to his work at the Acme Brick Company in Fort Smith as a brick salesman, and then moved into management during his last five years before retirement in 2004. As a long time member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Paul served as a council member for a number of years. Paul also enjoyed several pastimes including his love of golf, fishing, coaching his daughters in various sports during their younger years, was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan, and loved mowing and taking care of his yard. One of his last activities was a couple of weeks ago when he went to his barn to show his son in law how to mow his yard just the way he did it.

Paul is survived by his loving wife Dorcas; daughters, Cathy Strange of Barling, Paula Henley and husband Rod of Fort Smith; grandchildren Jessica Crain of Little Rock, Samantha Spence and husband Aaron of Fayetteville, Shelby Strange of Barling, and D.C. Lind IV of Fort Smith; three great grandchildren; and his only surviving sibling, sister Eugenia Smithson of Fort Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 5 – 7 pm at Fentress Mortuary, 1805 North A Street, Fort Smith. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday June 29 at Mount Olive Cemetery in Midland. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
