He graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1946, met and married the love of his life, Jeanette (Miller) Loris, and began a 38 year career working for the Postal Service, serving in many capacities, eventually retiring as senior director of customer service for NW AR Sectional Center in Fort Smith, on assignment as special assistant to the regional manager in Memphis. He and Jeanette raised their two boys, Stephen Thomas Loris and David Nicholas Loris, in Fort Smith, and later moved to Fayetteville in 1996. He was on the Fayetteville Tree and Landscape Committee, and was a dedicated Master Gardener, serving as president of the Sebastian County group.
