

Preston Swofford, 93 of Fort Smith, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in Fort Smith. He was born September 5, 1920 in Fort Smith to the late Elmer and Faye Swofford. He was a founding member of Central Christian Church. He was the former Vice President of Sales for DeSoto, Inc. He was a member of the UCT and was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and had record holding hours of 27,318 over the course of 17 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife June Swofford, his son-in-law Phil Childress, and his brother Hugh Swafford.
Funeral services with military honors will be 10:00 AM Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Fort Smith National Cemetery Pavilion. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his daughter Beth Childress of Dallas, his son Bob Swofford and his wife Amy of Roland, his sister Dorothy Howard of Ft. Smith, his sister-in-law Joanne Swafford of Ft. Smith, his daughter-in-law Suzanne Swofford of Ft. Smith, his five grandchildren; Meghan Howard and her husband Chris of Van Buren, Justin Childress and his wife Melanie of Dallas, Bobby Swofford of Ft. Smith, Kristin Childress of Nashville, TN and Nicklaus Landry Swofford of Roland, as well as his three great grandchildren; Brady Howard, Peyton Howard, and Elijah Childress.
Viewing will be 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the funeral home.
