Roy James Newman, 87, of Fort Smith, died February 21, 2013 in Fort Smith. He was born August 3, 1925 in Scranton, AR to Luther Lee and Mattie Mae Humphrey Newman. He was a retired employee of Rainbo Baking Company, a member of Victory Temple in Fort Smith, an avid gardener, and a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Roy served for five years in the Army Reserve and was on the front lines in Korea during 1950-51 where he received Three Bronze Stars, the Korean Service Medal and National Defense Medal.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pauline of the Home; one son, Kim and wife Leigh Ann Newman of Fort Smith; one brother, Cecil Newman of Fort Smith; one sister, Ruby Nell Inman of Fort Smith; and one grandson, Brandon Newman. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral service will be Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Victory Temple of Fort Smith with burial at 1:30 pm in the Ellsworth Cemetery near Paris, AR all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Terry Inman, Bob & Jerry Newman, and Joe, Jackie, and Curtis Turner.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Brandon Newman
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5-7 PM
