Scott H. Armstrong, 64, formerly of Macomb, Illinois, passed away on April 19, 2022 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Scott was born Ypsilanti, Michigan to Roger and Kathy Armstrong on September 13, 1957. He received a BA in Physics from Edinboro State University, a BS in Chemistry from Pennsylvania State University, and an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.

He was inducted into the U.S. Space Foundation Technology Hall of Fame for the commercialization of IC 531. The American Chemical Society awarded him the 1996 “Hero of Chemistry” for the same achievement. He also co-holds the patent for the weld-through primer.

Scott’s hobbies were silversmithing, woodworking and photography. He enjoyed taking his luge to the luge track in Muskegan, Michigan, and was an expert skier. He was accomplished at canoeing by the age of 10, and canoed many of the rivers in Indiana.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Roger Armstrong of Oregon, and Kathy Armstrong of Pennsylvania.

Scott is survived by his children, Alex Armstrong (24) of Houston, TX and Jacob Armstrong (21) of Macomb, IL; his brother, Thomas Armstrong (Lindsay) of Pleasant Hill, California; and his former wife, Ellen Armstrong of Macomb.

Scott’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Western Illinois Home Health Care, Help at Home, Memory Care of Little Rock at Good Shepherd, Baptist Hospital Hospice in Fort Smith, Arkansas, as well as all the friends and neighbors who “watched” over him in Macomb, Illinois.

A memorial is planned for a later date.
