Scotty Jones

Born on February 3, 1946, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Price and Edyth Jones, loving parents who instilled an impeccable work ethic, deep faith, and the genes to have a head full of brown hair at the age of eighty. He was also welcomed to the family by his older sister, Linda Jones Oliver, who gave him both the love of a big sister and a broken nose.

Scotty grew up in Waldron, Arkansas, where he learned how to talk his way into or out of any situation, developed a passion for anything with a motor, and met the love of his life, Anita.

After serving in the Army for three years, he went to Henderson State University then began his career in the trucking industry. He spent the majority of his career as the owner and CEO of Kelworth Trucking in Poteau, Oklahoma, where he led with generosity, integrity, and a brilliant mind for business.

Although he told stories very slowly, he drove fast. Scotty’s passion for old cars brought him joy and many friends, who loved him well through the end of his life. He collected cars and miles as he drove all over the country for car shows.

His true passion and the driving force of his life was his family. His marriage to Anita set an incredible example for their children, Jeff Jones and Rebecca Jones Whitson, and their grandchildren. Through tragedies, they remained devoted to one another and their family. Until the very end of his life, his only concern was taking care of his wife, and he did. His children never had to question the love of a Heavenly Father because he’d shown them the consistent love of an earthly father. To this day, his daughter remains overly-confident about home projects because his belief that she could do anything made her believe she could too. He welcomed his son-in-law and daughter-in-law into his family with open arms, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. From baseball games and choir concerts to playing cars in the floor, he never missed a thing. He planned his life around their activities and never stopped cheering them on. He will be greatly missed.

Scotty is survived by his beloved wife, Anita Jones; his daughter, Rebecca Whitson and husband Matt Whitson; his daughter-in-law, Julie Jones; and his grandchildren, Jenna, Will, Cy, Kariah, and Isabella, all of Fort Smith, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his son, Jeff Jones; his parents, Price and Edyth Jones; his sister, Linda Oliver; and his niece, Leslie Oliver.

A memorial service will be held at Fort Smith National Cemetery at 10am on Thursday, September 17, 2026, under the direction of Reverend Ed Saucier and Edwards Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made in Scotty’s memory to Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 1, at 12912 Tuscany Street, Fort Smith, AR, 72916.
